Today, just after 1000, 137 was dispatched to the Parkway Eastbound (I-376 EB) for a reported dump truck rollover. 278 (Swissvale FD) and 122 (Churchill FD) were immediately added to the assignment due to the high mechanism.
Units arrived on scene to find a dump truck hauling a full load of dirt/gravelite that had rolled onto its side, spilling its entire load across all lanes of the parkway. Bystanders had already assisted the driver out of the vehicle, who suffered moderate injuries. After the driver was in the care of EMS, units immediately went to work mitigating the hazardous fluids that were leaking into a nearby storm drain.
Units remained on scene for nearly four hours helping Penn DOT clean up the spill and return the parkway to working order. Once the vehicle was uprighted and all hazards were removed, the parkway was fully reopened.
