House Fire in Chalfant

Today just after 0600, units were dispatched for a reported apartment fire in the 300 block of Lynwood Avenue in Chalfant. Units arriving on scene investigated reports of smoke on the third floor, locating heavy smoke and fire throughout the building. Due to initial manpower shortages, Command requested 137 respond to the scene. 137 Rescue quickly marked en route with a crew of 4 interior firefighters. After arriving on scene, 137 crews went to work securing a secondary water supply as well as performing both interior and exterior firefighting assignments. The fire took approximately two hours to get under control. Extensive fire damage was done to the apartment as well as minor damage to the apartment building next door. According to investigators, the fire was believed to have been started by a tenant of the building who has been arrested and charged with assault and arson. An EVFD firefighter was evaluated on scene and transported to the hospital with a medical emergency and has since been released.
