Second Alarm House Fire in Swissvale

Tonight, just before 2230, units were dispatched to the 2400 block of Woodstock Avenue in Swissvale for a reported basement fire. While 137 Engine and Rescue were marking en route, Swissvale PD reported a working basement fire. 278 Engine arrived on scene, establishing Woodstock Avenue Command and calling for a second alarm.

137 Engine laid approximately 350 feet of supply hose down to the nearest hydrant. Multiple attack lines were pulled off of 278 Engine and advanced into the basement, where crews were met with moderate fire conditions in the basement bathroom. The fire made its way into the walls, running up toward the first floor. The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down, and crews remained on scene checking for extension.

It took approximately 30 minutes from dispatch for the fire to be placed under control. Units remained on scene for another 30 minutes completing salvage and overhaul.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Allegheny County Fire Marshal.

Responding companies: 1st (137, 278, 207, 171 RIT), 2nd (153, 292, 278OFF, ACFM, Red Cross)
