Vehicle Fire

Yesterday proved to be a very busy day for the EVFD! Starting at 8am, Firefighters from around the area gathered at Station 137 for the Incident Safety Officer (ISO) class necessary for maximum scene safety.

Around noon, units were alerted for a reported vehicle fire on the Penn Lincoln Parkway (I-376) eastbound. 137 Engine marked en route and could see a column of smoke rising from the Parkway while responding. 137 Engine arrived on scene and while 137 Chief established Parkway command, the rest of the Engine crew pulled an attack line to extinguish the fully involved sedan. The City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire responded to the incident with both Engine 12 and 16, pulling additional attack lines to support the EVFD. The fire was quickly extinguished and 137 Engine remained on scene for overhaul and cleanup.

After returning to quarters, units responded to back to back calls, assisting The Swissvale Fire Department with an inside gas leak and handling an E0 QRS call. The crew then attempted to do some driver's training at Edgewood Towne Centre, but was quickly interrupted by a call for a child struck by a vehicle in Swissvale. Units responded and assisted 278 with patient care and traffic control.

Although the crew thought the day was done, one last call was in store, as units were dispatched for a motorcyclist down in the roadway on the Parkway eastbound. Units arrived on scene and quickly took patient care, assisting EMS with packaging the biker for transport.

Responding companies (vehicle fire): 137, Pittsburgh 12 &16.

Responding companies (motorcyclist): 137.
