Second Alarm Garage Fire

Last night, just after 2200 hours, Station 137 was dispatched for a reported garage fire in Swissvale. 278 Engine 1 arrived on scene reporting a detached garage well involved. Due to the proximity to other structures and the threat of the fire spreading, command ordered a second alarm to standby in station. 137 Engine arrived on the scene shortly after and took control of the hydrant, feeding water into 278 Engine.

A 1 3/4" line was pulled from 278 Engine operated by 278 crew, and a 2" line was pulled from 278 Engine operated by the Edgewood crew. Just a couple hours prior, both Edgewood and Swissvale crews trained together on deploying and handling a 2" attack line.

The fire was knocked down by the two attack lines. Crews remained on scene to check for hot spots and overhaul.

Responding companies: 137, 171RIT, 207, 278 (2nd Alarm: 292, 293).
