Around 0600 hours on a snowy morning, Station 137 was alerted for a reported house fire in the neighboring borough of Swissvale. As Station 137 was marking en route, dispatch advised of Swissvale Police reporting a structure fully involved. While en route, Swissvale FD requested a second alarm.
Swissvale E278 arrived just prior to E137, who layed in. Due to exposures on both the Bravo and Delta side, a 3rd alarm was struck. Crews went to work protecting the exposures while 137 Assistant Chief manned the E278's deck gun, knocking down the bulk of the fire.
During the incident, the sub-freezing temperatures caused a sheet of ice to build around all surfaces. Swissvale public works was requested on a rush to salt the roads for access and safety.
